Program Overview

The Department of Economics of the Federal University of Viçosa (Universidade Federal de Viçosa, UFV) offers the Master’s Program in Economics with an Area of Concentration in Economic Development and Public Policies. Created on January 1, 2006, the Program reached concept 4 with Capes in its second evaluation period, having since then been consolidated at this level.

The Program aims to train professionals capable of theoretically reflecting on issues of economic development at macro and regional levels, as well as identifying microeconomic restrictions and institutional obstacles to local development. It also aims to enable this professional to help formulate consistent proposals to overcome these obstacles.

In this way, the training provided will prepare students for academic research at Universities and Research Institutes and for professional performance in public policy planning and execution bodies, at national, regional and local levels.

In terms of structure, students have access to vast bibliographic material available in the libraries of UFV and the Program itself, individual and collective study room, computer lab with computers and printer, wireless internet and other facilities that provide a comfortable and suitable environment for studies and research.

With regard to financial aid, the program also has 14 master’s scholarships distributed to students according to their academic performance.
